Biennial Report, 2006 edition

The OST Report

Every even-numbered year OST publishes a Report on R&D indicators that has become a standard reference work in the field.

In 2006, the 483-page 8th edition of the Report presents 236 annotated tables of indicators and 66 figures for understanding the system of research and innovation at regional, national, European and world levels, and for comparing dynamic trends in a European and international context. Read the abstract (PDF in french)

The 2006 edition is the first edition of the Report to be made available on line in a full text version, in accordance with permission granted by the publisher of the Report, Economica. The 2006 Report, as well as previous editions, can be ordered from the publisher (for a price of 90 euros). Order OST Report.

Generated according to international standards, OST indicators offer dynamic measurements of R&D activity in France, Europe and the world. They serve as tools for analysis of the human and financial resources devoted to R&D, research expenditure, size of student enrollments in higher education in the sciences, journal article production, patent filings, and the participation of laboratories in European Union research programmes.

The data utilised for indicator production comes from referenced sources including:

  • The Office of Evaluation, Performance and Forecasting of the Ministry for Research
  • The National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI)
    Eurostat
  • The European Patent Office (EPO)
  • The European Commission
  • OECD
  • ISI-Thomson Scientific
