Key figures on science and technology, 2006 edition
Since 1992 OST has published a small-format handbook in alternating years with its biennial report on science and technology indicators. Key Figures on Science and Technology is drawn from the work of OST.
The fifth edition is the first one to be published in English. It was conceived and written by Philippe Mustar, Professor at the Ecole des Mines de Paris and Laurence Esterle, Senior Scientist at INSERM.
The goal of this publication is to assemble a set of indicators yielding an overall perspective on the world of science and technology. A selection of fundamental indicators serves as a series of snapshots of S&T activity at world, national and regional levels. The indicators, chosen for their accessibility by non-specialists, portray at a glance the strengths and weaknesses of countries, regions, or industrial sectors. Using a Q&A format, the work helps the user – whether head of a research organisation, researcher, student, journalist or other actor – find synthetic tables for an overview on budgets, research personnel, collaborations, doctoral theses, scientific publications, and patents.
Key Figures is available in pdf format from Editions Economica (cost: 10 €).
