Coordination rate in European FP
Definition
The indicator coordination rate in European FP (expressed as a percentage) is defined as:
the number of FP projects coordinated by an actor (institution, country, etc.) proportional to the total number of FP projects.
- See definitions of presence rate and participation rate in FPRD.
Example 1
Table 1-5-66
France : participation in 5th and 6th FPRD – amount and rate of participation by French research teams
Interpretation: The Fifth Framework Programme for Research and Development (FP5), which ran from 1999 to 2002, attracted the participation of 74,731 research teams – including Euratom Programme projects (nuclear energy) but not including Marie Curie actions. Total French participations represented 12.1% of the whole.
Example 2
Table 1-5-67
France : participation in 5th and 6th FPRD – number of projects and rates of presence and of coordination by French research teams.
Interpretation: FP5 oversaw the contracting and funding of 12,514 R&D projects, counting Euratom projects. France was present in 4,706 projects or 37.6% of the total, with an average of two French teams for each French participation. French teams were responsible for coordinating a third of the projects in which they participated, or 12.4% of all FP5 projects.
Example 3
Figure 1-14
Participation and coordination rates (%) by French teams in FP5 projects by thematic area.
Interpretation: Concerning the 5th FPRD, French participation and coordination of European research projects are oriented toward the Social Sciences and Humanities, Information and Communication Technologies, Ground and Intermodal Transportation, and Aeronautics and Space.
